The Brand New Solar Power Tax Credit Is Here !

If you've been considering solar for your home or business, it's now time to celebrate ! After nearly a year of debates and nine previous attempts, On Friday October 3rd 2008 Congress finally approved a bill that not only extends the Federal 30% tax credit for solar but also removes the $2,000.00 cap that existed on the previous residential tax credit. That's an incredible 30% with no cap for residential and commercial installations !

"The single most important criteria when choosing a solar panel is not price nor is it performance. It's the financial strength of the manufacturer behind the solar panel's warranty."

Thousands of U.S. consumers will make the same mistake this Summer that so many have made in the past of trying to save a few dollars by buying non name brand solar panels from small financially unsound manufacturers that probably won't be around in 3 or 4 years. When their solar panels fail due to poor workmanship and or materials, the only thing that these consumers will be left with is a bunch of glass and aluminum on their roofs that they will have to pay to have removed.

With the cost of natural gas and electricity going through the roof, it is now time to start thinking about your energy budget as a whole.

You can't make your own gasoline and you can't make your own natural gas, but now you CAN make your own electricity. And the best part about it is that the fuel to make own electricity falls from the sky everyday for free.

Thousands of utility customers throughout the U.S., who were tired of the high cost of electricity have taken advantage of the huge rebates and tax credits which are available for the installation of solar energy systems on their homes and businesses.

For example, Southern California Edison is currently offering a cash rebate of up to $1,550.00 per AC kilowatt. And the Federal Government is offering a 30% tax credit with absolutely no cap residential and commercial applications. And unlike like the old solar energy systems of yesteryear that only produced hot water, these new systems actually produce electricity ! Clean reliable electricity to run lights, TVs, pumps, refrigerators, computers and many other appliances, all with free energy from the Sun.

Depending on the size system you choose and the number of loads you have running during the day, it is actually possible watch the power company's meter run backwards.

Since 1997 the staff here at Solar Home has developed an unmatched level of expertise in the design and implementation of systems that qualify for many State rebate programs. We offer free assistance in the design of your system, we can help you in locating a qualified, experienced contractor in your area and can even assist you with the submission of your rebate application to your State.

With more than 15,000 customers worldwide, we possess the knowledge, the experience and the strategic partnerships to make your transition into solar an experience that's not only enjoyable but also rewarding.

Solar Panel Comparison

The new laboratory test results are in and according to the new SB1 guidelines compliant module list that was posted on the California Energy Commission's website on July 1st 2009 many solar panel models posted a reduction in their PTC power ratings.

For instance the
Sun Powerâ SPR205BLK-U, SPR210BLK-U, SPR220BLK-U and SPR225BLK-U were downgraded by over 5 watts.

Per the new SB1 guidelines compliant module list our Siliken SLK60P6L 230 Watt solar panel actually has a higher per Watt PTC rating than all of the following solar panels:

The Sharpâ ND series 187 through 230 Watt panels.

The BPâ BP3210N and BP3220N solar panels.

The SolarWorldâ 165 and 175 solar panels.

The Solar Tech Powerâ 210 through 230 Watt panels.

The Canadian Solarâ P and PE series150 through 230 Watt panels.

The Evergreenâ Spruce Lineâ 150 through 175 Watt panels.

The Kyoceraâ LP Series 180 Through 210 Watt Solar Panels.

The GEâ 200 watt panel.

The REC ScanModule AB 205 through 225 Watt panels.

The DelSolarâ 210 through 230 Watt panels.

The Ningboâ Solar Electric Power Company 150 through 230 Watt panels.

The Ligitek Photovoltaic Companyâ 210 through 230 Watt panels.

The Apollo Solar Energyâ 190 through 210 Watt panels.

The ET Solar Industryâ 165 through 270 Watt panels.

The Alpsâ ATI-1750 165 through the ATI-2000 230 Watt panels.

The Aleo Solar AGâ 165 through 230 Watt panels.

The Andaly Solarâ LP Series 180 Through 210 Watt Solar Panels.

Which means that in California, watt for watt you'll get a bigger rebate with Siliken than with any of the solar panels listed above.

And according to the following manufacturer's own specification sheets, the Siliken SLK60P6L 230 Watt panel offers the best negative tolerance rating on the market. A better negative tolerance rating than the Sun Powerâ line of solar panels, the Sharpâ line of solar panels, the Canadian Solarâ line of solar panels, the BPâ line of solar panels, the GEâ line of solar panels and the Kyoceraâ LP Series 180 Through 210 Watt Solar Panels. A better negative tolerance rating means that you are guaranteed in writing of getting more of the power that you paid for.

The Siliken SLK60P6L also offers a warranty that is 5 years longer than the Sanyoâ 180 through 205 watt panels and the Kyoceraâ 170 through 210 Watt panels.

Only The Finest Available Products

When it comes to high efficiency and field proven U.S. made reliability nothing tops the performance of a PV Powered inverter. In 2004 PV Powered Inc. of  Bend, Oregon shook the industry's foundation by announcing the world's first CEC rated 96% efficient grid intertie inverter and if that wasn't enough soon after announcing this incredible accomplishment, they absolutely floored the competition with the industry's first 10 year standard warranty. Needless to say this literally forced inverter manufacturers around the world back to the drawing board.

Since that time PV Powered has lead the way with a record of reliability that very few inverter manufacturers have come close to touching. PV Powered's rock solid design makes their inverters almost bullet proof which is why PV Powered inverters are one of the most widely used products in the country.

Ask any alternative energy engineer, installer or dealer and they'll all tell you the same thing. With more than 750,000 Sunny Boy inverters sold and operating worldwide "The Sunny Boy inverter's proven technology makes this unit one of the best grid intertie inverters available on today's market." Like a fine German crafted sports car, Sunny Boy Inverters are engineered and built in Germany, the hotbed of the worlds finest renewable energy technology. We've taken Sunny Boy's unbeatable German craftsmanship and reliability a step further by adding one of the world's highest performance solar panels available.

When it comes to purchasing a solar system for your home or business it is crucial that you take a very close look at the solar panels that the dealer is offering you. After all, solar panels are the workhorse of any solar system. Far too many consumers simply purchase what ever it is that a dealer happens to have available without even looking at a specification sheet. Performance that is lacking by just a few percentage points or an inferior warranty can make all the difference in the world over the expected life of a solar panel.

With more than nine years of experience operating our own state of the art, in-house solar repair center, we know what technologies perform well in the real world and what technologies do not.

This is why it is important that you choose a solar panel manufacturer that is well established in the industry and has the financial strength to be there in the event that a warranty claim arises. This is exactly why we chose American made Siliken Solar for our Patriot series solar systems.

What made in the U.S.A. meant for us and what it means for you as a consumer.

We spent more than a year researching American manufacturers for our Patriot series grid tie solar systems. "Made in America" was only the beginning of the criteria that we demanded when making our decision.

Importing components from overseas so they can be assembled here in the U.S. just wasn't going to cut it. From silicon to ingots to wafers to cells and finally to complete modules, the manufacturer that we chose had to be fully vertically integrated with its materials made right here in the good old U.S.A. In other words, the manufacturer had to provide good quality jobs for Americans that produced the finest products available on the market.

Insisting on this type of control over materials and the manufacturing process is not only the best way to assure quality, it also creates a sense of pride that results in reliability and performance that's hard to beat.

We wanted a company with experience, not a startup or an importer that pretends to be a manufacturer with nothing vested. We've seen too many of those companies come and go, leaving their customers without warranties. We wanted a company that used proven, high performance technology. Gaining a few percentage points in efficiency is not an advantage if your solar panel no longer works because the manufacturer used some newfangled technology that failed after only 5 or 6 years of use in the Sun wind and rain.

The manufacturer's product that we chose not only had to be made in the U.S.A., it had to perform. In fact it had to literally squash the majority of the overseas manufacturer's performance or it wasn't going to make it on our website.

After a year's worth of false starts we are confident that we have found the ideal American made solar panel, Siliken Renewable Energy located in San Diego, California.

Siliken Solar Power Modules power the World's Largest Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant completed in 2008, providing 60 megawatts in Cuenca, Spain.

This System uses solar panels that have been manufactured with solar cells that have been cut from solid ingots of silicon.

When shopping for solar panels, always insist on solar panels that use solar cells that have been cut from a solid silicon ingot.
Many of the solar panels that are on the market that use silicon that is not cut from solid silicon ingots may offer lower efficiencies, poorer tolerances or lesser warranties.

Weight Matters

We only uses heavy duty inverters with 60 Hertz based, copper wound output transformers for high efficiency and unbeatable durability and performance.

Copper is expensive but its time tested performance in inverters is undeniable.

Since the year 2000 our founder has owned and operated one of the largest most experienced factory authorized  inverter repair centers in the nation and we know the value of using a heavy duty 60 Hertz based output transformer.

Because of our in depth knowledge concerning the design, construction and repair of inverters, we simply will not use HF (high frequency) inverters in our systems.

Before making a buying decision, better ask how much the other dealer's inverter weighs, then ask to see the inverter's specification sheet to be sure.

Many of our competitors use inverters with lower cost, HF (high frequency) output transformers.

Compare the PV Powered PVP4800 inverter that we offer with the Fronius® IG 5100 that the other dealers offer:

Comparison

Fronius® IG 5100

PV Powered PVP4800

CEC Weighted Efficiency

94.5%

96%
A higher California Energy Commission efficiency rating means
that you'll get a higher rebate in many state as well as more
wattage out of your system to your electric meter.

Inverter Weight

42 LBS

 135 LBS
The higher weight in the PV Powered PVP4800 is due to the heavy duty copper wound toroidal transformer that is used in this inverter.

What more can we say, If you want a lower efficiency, lighter weight inverter that's going to give you a smaller per PTC watt rebate then those other dealers have exactly what your looking for.

Massive Mounting Rails

We pay more for the heavier duty, top of the line U.S. Made Unirac mounting rails that are used in our systems, but if you compare Unirac to the competition, you'll find that Unirac uses much more aluminum. This results in added strength and less roof penetrations.

*****

This graphic says it all, If you want a flimsier mounting rail on the roof of your home that will require a lot more holes to be drilled into to your roof, then you can find dealers all over the Internet that offer this U shaped mounting rail.

The U shaped rail that many other dealers offer provides a flimsier design. To prove our point ask your dealer to provide a sample of their U shaped mounting rail. Lay the sample on its side and simply stand on it.

Note what happens to this rail. Next try the same thing with a SolarMount rail from Unirac and you'll know right away which design offers you more piece of mind.

Always ask your dealer to show you a sample of the mounting rails the he's going to use on your roof. ******

Important: If you've been provided with a quote with no mention of the brand or model number of the mounting system that your dealer is using, then the dealer is probably trying to sell you the cheapest available racks on the market. This is a common practice amongst less reputable  dealers. Always demand to see a full list of material including brands and models.

Take a close look at our competitor's offerings and we'll bet that 7 times out of 10 you'll find that they're low price is because they've included either low cost, thin mounting racks, thin film, thin output transformers or thin solar cells. At Solatron you won't find any low cost thin or lightweight products in our systems.
